UK conventions are a little different to all of the overseas conventions i've been to.... much smaller, with generally not a lot going on during the daytime, everyone just loitering around waiting for the jpop/anime music parties at night which everyone at the convention attends (well apart from guests... unless they want to i suppose).
The highlight of a UK convention is usually the "pub quiz" (do other countries have pub quiz's in pubs, or is this only a British thing? lol), basically it's an anime quiz in the bar area (hence "pub quiz") with teams of 5-10 people, it's all for fun, the questions are usually completely silly, and most teams end up getting ridiculed in various ways by the hosts.
If i remember rightly Ayacon has a pretty decent hall for concerts... about the same as Connichi had... big open space at the front, and then seats going up the back.
